Life Insurance Awareness Month

Understanding the Importance of Life Insurance

Life insurance serves as a fundamental component of financial planning, offering a safety net for families and businesses in the event of an unexpected loss. Despite its significance, a substantial number of Americans remain underinsured or lack coverage altogether. According to the 2024 Insurance Barometer Study by LIMRA and Life Happens, 42% of U.S. adults—approximately 102 million people—acknowledge the need for life insurance or additional coverage. (limra.com)

Common Misconceptions About Life Insurance

Several myths contribute to the life insurance coverage gap:

  • Perceived Cost: Many individuals overestimate the cost of life insurance. The same study revealed that 72% of Americans believe a basic term life insurance policy is more expensive than it actually is. (limra.com)
  • Lack of Knowledge: Only about 25% of consumers feel confident in their understanding of life insurance, leading to procrastination in obtaining coverage. (limra.com)

How to Back Up Physical and Online Documents in Case of Disaster

Disasters can strike without warning, and whether it’s a natural disaster like a hurricane or flood, or a man-made event like a data breach or house fire, losing important documents can make recovery difficult. Backing up both physical and online documents is an essential step in ensuring that your most valuable information is safe, secure, and accessible when you need it most. This blog post will explore the best ways to back up your physical and online documents, with a focus on storage solutions both online and offline, including commercial services available for file storage.

Why Backup Matters

Your essential documents, such as birth certificates, property deeds, insurance policies, medical records, and legal documents, can be hard to replace if they’re lost or destroyed. Digital files, such as personal photos, financial records, and important work documents, are equally vulnerable to hardware failure, hacking, or accidental deletion. Backing up these items provides peace of mind and quick access when you’re faced with an emergency situation.

How to Back Up Physical Documents

Backing up physical documents requires converting them into digital form. Here’s how you can safeguard your critical paper documents:

1. Scan Your Documents:
Use a high-quality scanner to create digital versions of important documents. Many multifunction printers or mobile apps (like Adobe Scan, Microsoft Lens, or CamScanner) can help you quickly convert physical papers to PDF or image formats.

2. Store Copies in a Safe Deposit Box:
For irreplaceable documents like birth certificates, property titles, or wills, it’s wise to store physical copies in a bank’s safe deposit box. They offer a high level of protection from fire, theft, and natural disasters.

3. Fireproof and Waterproof Safes:
Keep physical documents safe at home in a high-quality fireproof and waterproof safe. These safes offer critical protection against fire, water damage, and even burglary.

4. Backup to External Drives:
After scanning your documents, transfer them to an external hard drive or USB flash drive. Keep this backup in a separate location (a friend’s or family member’s house) to ensure it’s safe from local disasters. Ensure that your external drive is stored securely and check it regularly to ensure the data remains accessible.

How to Back Up Online Documents

Digital documents and files are just as important to protect as their physical counterparts. Here are several ways to ensure your online data is backed up securely.

1. Cloud Storage Solutions:
Cloud storage offers convenience and peace of mind, allowing you to access your files from anywhere, even in the event of a disaster. Popular cloud services include:

– Google Drive: Offers 15GB of free storage and affordable plans for more. It allows easy file sharing, real-time collaboration, and secure encryption.
– Dropbox: Known for ease of use, Dropbox offers 2GB of free storage with premium options for larger needs. It’s ideal for file syncing and sharing across multiple devices.
– OneDrive: Integrated with Microsoft Office products, OneDrive offers 5GB of free storage and is a popular choice for those in the Microsoft ecosystem.
– iCloud: Apple’s iCloud offers 5GB of free storage, with higher-tier options. It’s designed for seamless integration with Apple devices, making it easy to store photos, documents, and backups of your devices.

2. Dedicated Online Backup Services:
Unlike standard cloud storage services, dedicated backup solutions are designed specifically for data preservation. These services usually run automatically and back up all your files without requiring manual uploads.

– Backblaze: Offers unlimited cloud backup for PCs and Macs for a flat monthly fee. It runs continuously in the background, ensuring all your data is securely stored in the cloud.
– Carbonite: Provides automatic backup for all your devices. It includes additional features like remote file access and enhanced protection against ransomware.
– iDrive: Offers cloud backup for multiple devices, including PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. iDrive allows you to manage backups for multiple computers under one account.

3. Encrypt Sensitive Data:
Whether you’re using cloud services or external drives, sensitive documents like financial records or legal contracts should be encrypted. Services like VeraCrypt and AxCrypt provide encryption tools that secure files, ensuring that they can only be accessed by you.

Offline Backup Options

Storing documents offline provides an extra layer of security, especially in case of a data breach or online service outage. Offline backups are immune to cyber-attacks and accidental deletion.

1. External Hard Drives:
An external hard drive is one of the simplest ways to back up files. Make sure to choose one with plenty of storage space and consider rotating between two drives so that you always have a recent backup.

2. USB Flash Drives:
For smaller backups, USB flash drives are a compact and affordable option. They are portable and can be stored in secure locations, such as a fireproof safe.

3. Network Attached Storage (NAS):
NAS devices are specialized storage solutions that connect to your home or office network, allowing you to back up files from multiple devices. They offer features like RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), which duplicates your data across multiple drives to prevent loss in case one drive fails.

Creating a Backup Plan

Now that you know how to store your documents, it’s time to create a backup plan. Here’s how to ensure your backups remain up-to-date and secure:

1. Set Regular Backup Intervals:
Schedule regular backups to ensure new or updated files are always preserved. Depending on your needs, this could be daily, weekly, or monthly.

2. Use the 3-2-1 Backup Rule:
The 3-2-1 rule ensures maximum protection. It recommends having at least three copies of your data: two on different storage devices (such as your computer and an external hard drive), and one stored offsite (like in the cloud).

3. Test Your Backups:
Make sure your backup files are intact and accessible. Perform regular tests by attempting to restore data from your external drives or cloud storage.

Conclusion

Backing up physical and digital documents is critical for safeguarding your information in case of disaster. Whether you’re storing files online through commercial services like Google Drive or Backblaze, or backing up offline using external hard drives and fireproof safes, the key is to have multiple layers of protection. A combination of cloud storage, external drives, and physical safekeeping will ensure that your important documents are safe, secure, and easily retrievable no matter what happens. Take the time to set up a reliable backup system today—it’s an investment that will pay off in peace of mind and preparedness for any unexpected event.

Comprehensive Guide to Water Backup Insurance Coverage: Protect Your Home from Costly Damages

Comprehensive Guide to Water Backup Insurance Coverage: Protect Your Home from Costly Damages

As a homeowner, you take pride in your property and work hard to maintain your home’s integrity. However, there are unforeseen events, like water backups, that can wreak havoc on your home, especially your basement or worse yet, a finished basement. Whether it’s due to heavy rain, sewer system issues, or other factors, water backup incidents can lead to costly damages. That’s where water backup insurance coverage comes into play – it’s a safeguard for your financial well-being when facing such unexpected challenges.

Flooded Basement

Why Basement Water Damage Matters

Your basement is more than just a storage space. It may house valuable belongings, serve as a finished living area, or even include essential utilities like your HVAC system or electrical panels. When water infiltrates this space, the damage can be extensive and expensive to repair. From ruined furniture and appliances to compromised structural integrity, the consequences of basement water damage can be overwhelming.

Understanding Water Backup Insurance

Water backup insurance is an optional coverage that you can add to your homeowner’s insurance policy. While standard policies typically cover certain types of water damage, such as burst pipes, they often exclude damages caused by water backing up through sewers or drains.

Here are key points to understand about water backup insurance:

 1. Coverage Details: Water backup insurance typically covers damage caused by water backing up through sewers, drains, or sump pumps. This includes damage to your basement and its contents, such as furniture, appliances, and electronics.

 2. Limits and Deductibles: Like other insurance coverages, water backup insurance comes with limits and deductibles. Make sure you understand these limits and choose coverage that adequately protects your property.

 3. Preventive Measures: Insurance providers may offer discounts or incentives for homeowners who take preventive measures to reduce the risk of water backup incidents. This could include installing a sump pump, one way water valve, or backup generator.

 4. Exclusions: It’s essential to review your policy carefully to understand any exclusions. For example, most policies will not cover damage resulting from floods or neglecting maintenance of your plumbing system

Why You Need Water Backup Insurance

1. Financial Protection: Without proper coverage, you could be left paying out of pocket for expensive repairs to your basement and its contents. Water backup insurance provides financial protection against these unexpected costs.

2. Peace of Mind: Knowing that you’re covered in the event of a water backup can give you peace of mind as a homeowner. Instead of worrying about potential damages, you can focus on enjoying your home.

3. Comprehensive Coverage: While you may already have homeowner’s insurance, it’s essential to ensure you have comprehensive coverage that includes protection against all potential risks, including water backups.

Tips for Preventing Basement Water Damage

While having water backup insurance is crucial, taking preventive measures can help reduce the likelihood of experiencing a water backup incident. Here are some tips:

–Regularly inspect and maintain your plumbing system. Keeping it free from breaks, clogs and other defects.

-Install a sump pump and ensure it’s in good working condition.

-Install a check valve to prevent sewage backups.

-Add a battery backup to your sump pump.

-Add a water detection device with audible alarm or add a water detection device to your home security system

Do I need to buy the insurance when renting a car?

Do I need to buy the insurance when renting a car?

The need to buy insurance when renting a car depends on various factors, including your existing insurance coverage, the rental company’s policies, and your personal preferences. Here are some points to consider:

Picture #1 Couple signing confusing contract 5-1-24 iStock AI generated
  1. Existing Insurance Coverage:Check whether your existing auto insurance policy covers rental cars. Many policies extend coverage to rental cars, but it’s essential to review your policy details with your agent to understand the extent of coverage, including whether it covers damage to the rental vehicle and liability protection.
  2. Credit Card Coverage:Some credit cards offer rental car insurance as a benefit when you use the card to pay for the rental. However, the coverage provided by credit cards can vary widely, so be sure to check the terms and conditions of your credit card’s rental car insurance coverage.
  3. Rental Company Policies:Rental car companies typically offer insurance options, including collision damage waivers (CDW) and liability coverage. While these options provide peace of mind, they can add significantly to the overall cost of renting the vehicle.
  4. Personal Risk Tolerance:Consider your personal risk tolerance and financial situation. If you’re comfortable with the level of coverage provided by your existing auto insurance policy or credit card, you may choose to decline additional insurance offered by the rental company to save money. However, if you prefer the added protection or if you’re concerned about potential out-of-pocket expenses in the event of an accident, purchasing additional insurance might be worthwhile.
  5. Destination and Driving Conditions:If you’re renting a car in a foreign country or an unfamiliar location, you may want to consider the local driving conditions, road rules, and potential risks. In some cases, purchasing additional insurance could provide valuable coverage and peace of mind, especially if you’re unsure about the reliability of your existing coverage abroad.

Before making a decision, carefully review your existing insurance policies, credit card benefits, and the rental car company’s insurance options. Additionally, don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek clarification from your insurance provider and the rental car company to ensure you understand the coverage available and make an informed decision based on your needs and preferences.

Loaning Your Car: Understanding Insurance Implications

Loaning Your Car: Understanding Insurance Implications

Sharing is caring, they say. But what about sharing your car? Whether it’s a friend in need or a family member seeking transportation, loaning your vehicle to someone else can be a generous gesture. However, before handing over the keys, it’s essential to understand the potential implications on your insurance coverage.

Untitled design (33)

Can You Loan Your Car?

The short answer is yes, you can lend your car to someone else. However, the extent to which your insurance covers the driver borrowing your vehicle depends on various factors, including your insurance policy and state laws.

Primary Factors to Consider:

  1. Insurance Policy Type: Different insurance policies offer different levels of coverage when someone else drives your car. It’s crucial to review your policy documents or consult your insurance agent to understand the specifics.
  2. Permissive Use: Most insurance policies extend coverage to permissive drivers, meaning individuals you allow to drive your car occasionally. However, this coverage may vary depending on the insurance company and policy terms.
  3. Driver’s Insurance: In some cases, the insurance coverage of the driver borrowing your car may also apply to accidents or incidents that occur while they’re driving. This typically applies to liability coverage and not damage to your vehicle, but again, it’s essential to confirm with your agent.
  4. State Laws: Insurance regulations can vary significantly from one state to another. Some states have “vicarious liability” laws, which hold the vehicle owner responsible for any damages caused by the person driving their car, regardless of fault. Understanding your state’s laws is crucial in determining your liability when loaning your vehicle.

Implications for Your Insurance:

  1. Coverage Limitations: While your insurance may extend to permissive drivers, there could be limitations on coverage, such as higher deductibles or reduced benefits. Reviewing your policy details can help you understand any potential gaps in coverage.
  2. Claims History: If the driver borrowing your car is involved in an accident, it could impact your insurance rates, especially if the accident results in a claim against your policy. Even if you weren’t driving, insurance companies may consider your claims history when calculating premiums.
  3. Liability Concerns: In the event of an accident, you could be held liable for damages or injuries caused by the driver borrowing your car, depending on your state’s laws and insurance coverage. Understanding your liability exposure is essential for protecting your finances.
  4. Non-Permissive Use: If someone drives your car without your permission and gets into an accident, your insurance company may deny coverage. It’s crucial to be cautious about who you allow to drive your vehicle and to report any unauthorized use to your insurer and possibly law enforcement, promptly.

While loaning your car can be a kind gesture, it’s essential to understand the insurance implications to avoid potential financial risks. Reviewing your insurance policy, knowing your state’s laws, and communicating with your insurer can help you make informed decisions when sharing your vehicle with others. Remember, being proactive and informed is key to protecting yourself and your assets in any situation involving your car.

The Power of a Local Independent Insurance Agent: Why They Matter More Than Ever

The Power of a Local Independent Insurance Agent: Why They Matter More Than Ever

In today’s fast-paced world, where everything seems to be going digital, there’s something invaluable about the personal touch and local expertise offered by independent insurance agents. These agents, in touch with their communities, serve as trusted advisors, providing tailored (TAYLORed) solutions and unmatched customer service. Here are 6 key benefits of choosing a local independent insurance agent:

  1. Personalized Service: Unlike large insurance corporations where you might just be a policy number, local independent agents offer personalized attention. They take the time to understand your unique needs, assess your risks, and recommend coverage that fits your lifestyle and budget. Whether you’re insuring your home, car or business, they’ll work with you to find the best options available.
  2. Local Expertise: Nobody understands the local market better than someone who lives and works in the community. Local independent agents have a deep understanding of the risks specific to your area, whether it’s weather-related hazards, crime rates, or other regional factors. This knowledge allows them to offer informed advice and recommend policies that provide comprehensive coverage for your particular circumstances.
  3. Choice and Flexibility: Independent agents are not tied to any single insurance company. Instead, they have relationships with multiple carriers, giving you access to a wide range of policies and pricing options. This means they can shop around on your behalf, comparing quotes and coverage features to ensure you get the best value for your money. Plus, if your needs change over time, they can easily help you transition to a different insurer without having to switch agents

4. Advocacy and Support: Most insurance customers have never had an insurance claim. That is why it is important to have an agent in your corner. They’ll guide you through the claims process, acting as your advocate to ensure you receive fair and prompt resolution. Whether it’s answering questions, providing documentation, or following up with the insurance company on your behalf, they’ll be there every step of the way, providing the support you need during challenging times.

5. Community Connection: Local independent agents are more than just insurance professionals; they’re active members of the community. They understand the importance of giving back and supporting local initiatives. By choosing to do business with them, you’re not only getting top-notch insurance services but also contributing to the growth and prosperity of your community.

6. Long-Term Relationships: Unlike online insurance platforms where interactions can feel transactional, local independent agents prioritize building long-term relationships with their clients. They’re there for you not just when you’re purchasing a policy but throughout the life of your coverage. Whether you have questions, need to update your policy, or simply want to review your coverage, you can count on them for reliable guidance and support.

In conclusion, local independent insurance agents offer a level of service and expertise that simply can’t be matched by online providers or direct insurers. From personalized attention and local knowledge to choice, advocacy, and community connection, they provide invaluable benefits that go far beyond just buying a policy. So, the next time you’re in the market for insurance, consider reaching out to a local independent agent—you’ll be glad you did.

Understanding the Surge in Personal Lines Insurance Costs: Factors and Insights

Understanding the Surge in Personal Lines Insurance Costs: Factors and Insights

In recent years, individuals across the country have experienced a noticeable uptick in their personal lines insurance premiums. Whether it’s home, auto, boat, or other forms of personal insurance, the rising costs have left many policyholders questioning the reasons behind this significant increase. Several factors contribute to the substantial increase in insurance costs, reshaping the landscape of risk assessment, market dynamics, and economic conditions.

  1. Increased Frequency and Severity of Natural Disasters: Mother Nature has been quite the problem in the last several years causing natural disasters, such as tornadoes, wildfires, and floods to become more frequent and many times, more severe. The escalating damages and losses incurred by insurance companies due to these catastrophic events have prompted them to reassess their risk models, resulting in higher premiums for policyholders, particularly those living in high-risk areas. Those of us in the Midwest are no longer immune to weather disasters.
  2. Technological Advancements and Costlier Repairs: The advancement of technology in vehicles and homes has been a double-edged sword. While these innovations offer improved safety features and conveniences, they also make repairs and replacements more expensive. Sophisticated electronics, complex vehicle components, and smart home systems contribute to higher repair and replacement costs, prompting insurers to adjust premiums accordingly.

3. Economic Factors and Inflation: Inflationary pressures impact various sectors, including insurance. Rising costs of materials and labor affect the overall cost of claims for insurance companies. To maintain profitability and financial stability, insurers often raise premiums to offset these increased expenses.

4. Legal and Regulatory Changes: Changes in laws and regulations can have a profound impact on insurance costs. Alterations in insurance requirements, such as minimum coverage limits or mandatory coverage types, can result in higher premiums. Additionally, legal developments, such as increased litigation or changes in liability laws, may contribute to rising insurance costs.

5. Underwriting and Risk Assessment Adjustments: Insurers continuously refine their underwriting practices to accurately assess risk. Factors like credit scores, driving records, and individual claim histories are scrutinized more meticulously and have become more strictly adhered to by companies. As data analytics become more sophisticated, insurers may identify higher-risk individuals or areas, leading to adjusted premiums.

6. Market Dynamics and Competition: Fluctuations in the insurance market and competitive pressures among insurers can influence premium rates. If several insurers face losses in a specific line of business, the industry might respond by increasing premiums collectively to remain financially sustainable.

Insurance Policy

While these factors contribute to the overall rise in personal lines insurance costs, the extent of their impact can vary depending on geographical location, specific coverage needs, individual risk profiles, and insurance companies’ strategies.

Policyholders can explore several strategies to mitigate the impact of increased insurance costs:

  • Review Discounts: Speak with your agent to make sure you are getting all the discounts you are entitled to.
  • Risk Mitigation: Implement safety measures to reduce risks, such as installing security systems or opting for safer driving habits.
  • Review Coverage Needs: Regularly assess coverage requirements and options to ensure they align with your current needs, avoiding unnecessary expenses.
  • Shop Around: Compare quotes from multiple insurers to find competitive rates. Make sure to compare apples to apples as all insurance (or insurance agents) are not the same. Those with independent insurance agents can lean on their agent to help them shop amongst multiple carriers for the best coverage/premium option.

Understanding the reasons behind the surge in personal lines insurance costs empowers individuals to make informed decisions regarding their insurance coverage, manage risks effectively, and navigate the evolving landscape of insurance pricing. While the factors contributing to rising premiums may persist, staying informed and proactive can help individuals adapt to these changes and make sound financial choices.

Understanding the Factors Behind Increasing Homeowners Insurance Premiums

Understanding the Factors Behind Increasing Homeowners Insurance Premiums

Homeowners insurance premiums increased more than 12% on average nationwide in 2022 and seem to be on par for even more increases in 2023.

For homeowners, having insurance is a crucial part of protecting their property and financial well-being. However, it can be frustrating when you receive your annual homeowners insurance renewal and discover that your premiums have increased. In this blog post, we will delve into the factors that contribute to rising homeowners insurance premiums and provide insights to help you better understand the reasons behind these increases.

  1. Rising Construction Costs: One of the primary reasons for increasing homeowners insurance premiums is the rising cost of construction materials and labor. The cost of building materials, such as lumber, concrete, and steel, has been on the rise due to factors like increased demand and supply chain disruptions. Additionally, labor costs have also increased, impacting the overall cost of repairing or rebuilding a home after a covered event. To compensate for these higher costs, insurance companies adjust their premiums accordingly.
  2. Increasing Frequency and Severity of Weather Events: There has been noticeable increase in the frequency and severity of storms in the last decade. These catastrophic events result in higher claims payouts for insurers due to property damage and loss. To manage this increased risk, insurance companies adjust their premiums to cover the potential losses associated with these events. Homeowners residing in high-risk areas may experience a more significant impact on their premiums.

3. Inflation and Economic Factors: Inflation and economic conditions can also contribute to rising homeowners insurance premiums. As the cost of goods and services increases due to inflation, insurance companies must adjust their pricing to account for these changes. Additionally, economic factors, such as low-interest rates and investment returns, can affect insurance company profitability. To maintain financial stability, insurers may need to raise premiums to offset any potential losses.

4. Personal Claims History: Your personal claims history plays a significant role in determining your homeowners insurance premiums. Filing a claim with your insurance company should not be taken lightly. According to SafeHome.org, you may be more likely to pay more for homeowners insurance if you have had a claim in your recent past. If you have a history of claims or significant losses, insurance companies may view you as a higher-risk policyholder. This perception can result in increased premiums as insurers anticipate a higher likelihood of future claims. Maintaining a claims-free record and taking preventive measures to protect your property can help mitigate the impact on your premiums.

While increasing homeowners insurance premiums can be frustrating, understanding the factors behind these increases can provide valuable insights. Rising construction costs, the impact of natural disasters, inflation, and personal claims history all contribute to these adjustments. By staying informed and proactive, homeowners can make informed decisions about their insurance coverage and take steps to minimize the financial impact. Reviewing your policy regularly, maintaining a claims-free history, and taking preventive measures can help mitigate the effect of rising premiums. Additionally, consulting with your independent insurance agent can provide personalized advice tailored to your specific situation. Remember, insurance is designed to protect your home and financial well-being, and though premiums may increase, the coverage and peace of mind it provides remain invaluable

Is Your Car Ready for Winter?

Is Your Car Ready for Winter?

As great as fall is, we all know what is next, the dreaded winter. Now would be a great time to get your vehicle(s) ready for the harsh months ahead. You can avoid many dangerous winter travel problems by planning ahead. First, have service on your vehicle as often as the manufacturer recommends. Breakdowns are never ideal, but wintertime is the worst on our vehicles. In addition, every fall, consider the following:

• Have the coolant system (radiator) serviced or check the antifreeze level yourself with an antifreeze tester available where auto parts are sold. Top off antifreeze as needed.

• Now would be a good time to replace windshield-wiper fluid with a wintertime mixture.

• Have your tires seen better days. Winter is not the time to try to get by with bald tires. Replace worn tires, make sure the tires have adequate tread depth, and as with every sea- sonal change, remember to check the air pressure in your tires as the outside temperature can really make a big differ- ence in tire pressures.

• Maybe the highest priority of all is: Keep your car stocked for winter. During the winter months, keep the gas tank as near to full as possible to help avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines. But mostly, keep that tank full so you can keep your engine running to keep you worm if stranded due to an accident or impassable roadway conditions. AND don’t forget to keep warm clothing, boots or heavy shoes, blankets and maybe a snack or two in the car, just in case.

Hopefully, this year will be another mild winter. Just in case mother nature is ready to unleash a flurry of ice, snow, wind and cold, think ahead now and get your vehicle ready for whatever comes our way. Why You Need Classic, Antique, and Collectible Vehicle Insurance

Why You Need Classic, Antique, and Collectible Vehicle Insurance

How It Differs From Auto Insurance In Ohio

Are you a classic car owner or collector? Perhaps you’re a lover of other vintage vehicles. If this sounds like you, your vehicle or vehicles are probably some of your most prized possessions. Protecting your car should be of vital importance if it is damaged or stolen.

Ordinary auto insurance is often not adequate for classic or collector vehicles. Instead, you should be looking at insurance designed specifically for these vehicles, there is a difference between having the right coverage and just being insured.

What Is Classic, Antique, and Collectible Vehicle Insurance?

Classic, antique, and collectible vehicle insurance is designed to protect owners of any antique or collectible vehicle, from classic cars to vintage motorcycles and antique tractors. If you have a vehicle that is rare or has some unique value, this type of insurance is ideal. You will want to use this type of coverage for a particular car that might spend a lot of time in your garage and the occasional trips to car shows or other special events.

What’s Covered?

Collector vehicle insurance in Ohio covers multiple items that can protect your vehicle both on the road and when it’s stationary. These includes:

  • Property coverage for damage or theft

  • Liability coverage covers costs associated with other people’s medical bills or damage expenses

  • Medical expense coverage pays for medical costs, sometimes including funeral expenses and lost wages for both the driver and passengers

  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage protects you in an incident involving an uninsured or underinsured driver

  • Towing and disablement coverage helps you with the costs of some frequent roadside breakdowns

Can I Use Standard Auto Insurance?

When you’re looking for insurance for a vintage vehicle, you might wonder whether you could use standard auto insurance. The answer is plain and simple – you can, but we wouldn’t recommend it. This is because regular car insurance will not be suitable for your vehicle’s needs. You need an insurance company that understands the nature of collectibles. It is important that your company knows the difference between the original paint and a resto-mod. Unlike an everyday car, many collectible vehicles appreciate rather than depreciate. Plus, insuring a vehicle that you rarely use with the same type of insurance policy that you use for your everyday car does not add up.

The Benefits of Collector Vehicle Insurance in Ohio

Taking out a collector’s insurance policy has many benefits, one being the type of protection that it gives your vehicle. You need coverage full time, even if your car is in storage most of the year. Collision and comprehensive coverage need to be present year-round, whether you are in a parade, at a show, out for ice cream, or just have it sitting in the garage.

When you choose us as your local independent insurance agency in Lewisburg, Preble County Ohio, you can be sure that we know the difference between your vehicle and an average car and will guide you on the next steps to take. Contact Taylor & Associates Insurance Agency to speak with an agent familiar with collectibles today.
